第八届英语作为通用语国际研讨会(ELF8)将于2015年8月25—27日在北京国际会议中心举行。英语作为通用语研究对全球化过程中的英语进行了崭新的诠释,颠覆了传统意义上本族语英语使用者和非本族语英语使用者之间的区分,对传统的将标准英语视为非本族语英语使用者的唯一参考标准之观点进行了批判,强调英语语言的多样性,以及英语标准的多样性。这一崭新视角为传统英语研究带来挑战,也为英语研究带来无限创新机遇。迄今为止,ELF国际研讨会已经成功举办七届,分别在赫尔辛基(2008)、南安普顿(2009)、维也纳(2010)、香港(2011)、伊斯坦布尔(2012)、罗马(2013)和雅典(2014)等地召开。2015年,大会将第一次在中国内地举办,届时研讨会将邀请国内外学者围绕大会主题做主旨发言、特邀专题研讨和工作坊。
主旨发言人简介
Jennifer Jenkins (University of Southampton, UK)
Jennifer Jenkins holds the Chair of Global Englishes at the University of Southampton where she is also Founding Director of the University’s Centre for Global Englishes. Before that, she worked for 15 years at King’s College London, where she designed and directed the masters in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics. She has been conducting research into ELF since the late 1980s. She has published three monographs on the subject: The Phonology of English as an International Language (OUP, 2000), English as a Lingua Franca: Attitude and Identity (OUP, 2007, reprinted by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press), English as a Lingua Franca in the International University: The Politics of Academic English Language Policy (Routledge, 2014) as well as numerous journal articles. She has also edited a number of volumes on aspects of global Englishes/ELF and written a university coursebook, World Englishes, whose 3rd edition was recently published as Global Englishes (Routledge, 2015). She is Founding Co-editor of the book series Developments in ELF (De Gruyter Mouton).
Wei Li (University College London, UK)
Wei Li is Professor of Applied Linguistics at University College London. His research interests are in various aspects of bilingualism and multilingualism and has published extensively in these areas. His recent publications include: Applied Linguistics (Wiley-Blackwell, 2014), and Translanguaging: Language, Bilingualism and Education (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014, with Ofelia Garcia). He is Principal Editor of International Journal of Bilingualism, Co-Editor of Applied Linguistics Review (De Gruyter), Global Chinese (De Gruyter), Chinese Language and Discourse (Benjamins), and Editor of the book series Research Methods in Language and Linguistics (Wiley Blackwell). He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS), UK, and Chair of the University Council of General and Applied Linguistics (UCGAL), UK.
Anna Mauranen(University of Helsinki, Norway)
Anna Mauranen is Professor of English at the University of Helsinki. Her main areas of research and publications include English as a lingua franca, corpus linguistics, modelling spoken language, and academic discourses. She is Co-Editor of the journal Applied Linguistics and a former Co-editor of JELF, the Journal of English as a Lingua Franca. She is currently the Director of corpus-based research projects on spoken and written academic English as a lingua franca (the ELFA project, www.helsinki.fi/elfa), and the Director of a research consortium on Global English. She was also the Director of an ethnographically oriented project SELF (Studying in English as a Lingua Franca). She has compiled several corpora: the ELFA corpus on Spoken English as a Lingua Franca in Academic Settings, the WrELFA corpus, Written English as a Lingua Franca in Academic Settings, both part of the ELFA project, The Corpus of Translated Finnish (CTF), and has participated in the compilation of the MICASE Corpus of Spoken Academic English and the FECCS Corpus (Finnish-English Contrastive Corpus). Her major publications include: Exploring ELF: Academic English shaped by non-native speakers (CUP, 2012), English as a Lingua Franca – Studies and Findings (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2009, edited with Ranta); Linear Unit Grammar (with Sinclair; John Benjamins 2006), Translation Universals – Do They Exist (John Benjamins, 2004), Cultural Differences in Academic Rhetoric (Peter Lang, 1993). She is currently the Pro-vice-Chancellor of the University of Helsinki.
Qiufang Wen(Beijing Foreign Studies University, China)
Qiufang Wen works at Beijing Foreign Studies University as Professor of Applied Linguistics and Director of the University Academic Council. She is also President of China English Language Education Association, and editor of Chinese Journal of Applied Linguistics (in English) and of Foreign Language Education in China (in Chinese). She has obtained three national and four provincial awards for excellence in teaching. She is also an experienced researcher and writer, having published more than 130 papers and 17 books, and has finished/is conducting more than 30 research projects. Her research interests include second language teaching and learning, teacher professional development and national language capacity.
